evaluation of various temperatures on quinoa plant seeds under salinity stress

چکیده
quinoa (chenepodium quinoa willd) is a grain-like crop which has a high production potential in iran. due to its seeds high nutritional value, it is compared with milk by the fao. in order to study the effects of temperatures on seed germination of quinoa seeds under salinity stress conditions, an experiment was conducted in seed lab of the university of tehran in karaj. temperatures regimes included 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35°c. at each temperature four salinity treatments (zero, -4, -8 and -12 bars) using nacl were used. results showed that increasing salinity stress decreased significantly germination rate but did not affect germination percentage except in 35°c at -12 bar. basal temperature (tb) for quinoa germination was increased in high salinity potentials, but ceiling temperature (tc) decreased. the germination data indicated that high salinity resulted in the narrow germination temperature in quinoa seed.

Effect of seed priming with selenium nanoparticles and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria on improving Quinoa seedling growth under salinity stress
Soil and water salinity are the most important problems that limit crop production, especially in the arid and semi-arid regions. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of growth-promoting bacteria and selenium nanoparticle pretreatment on increasing the tolerance of the Chenopodium quinoa plant to salinity. A factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with...
متن کاملPlant Growth and Development under Salinity Stress
Plant growth and development are adversely affected by salinity – a major environmental stress that limits agricultural production. This chapter provides an overview of the physiological mechanisms by which growth and development of crop plants are affected by salinity. The initial phase of growth reduction is due to an osmotic effect, is similar to the initial response to water stress and show...
متن کاملEffects of ZnO NPs on phenolic compounds of rapeseed seeds under salinity stress
In this study, rapeseed Okapi cultivar was treated under three NaCl levels (0, 50 and 100 mM) and four Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) concentrations (0, 20, 40 and 80 mgL-1) at flowering stage. The experiment was performed in a completely randomized design (CRD) in the greenhouse of Biology Department of Urmia University, in 2015. Results showed that NaCl (100 mM) significantly enhanced tot...
متن کاملIonic and osmotic relations in quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) plants grown at various salinity levels
Ionic and osmotic relations in quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) were studied by exposing plants to six salinity levels (0-500 mM NaCl range) for 70 d. Salt stress was administered either by pre-mixing of the calculated amount of NaCl with the potting mix before seeds were planted or by the gradual increase of NaCl levels in the irrigation water. For both methods, the optimal plant growth and ...
متن کاملEffect of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Bio Fertilizers on Some Seed Germination Traits of Two Cultivars of Quinoa under Salinity Stress
Introduction: salinity is known as the most important inhibitor of seed germination of most plants and limits the establishment of plants in arid and semi-arid regions such as Iran. The first effects of salinity on plant growth are associated with reduced seed germination and lack of uniformity in plant emergence. Currently, identification and utilization of tolerant cultivars are one of the mo...
متن کاملDistribution of minerals in quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) seeds.
The distribution of minerals in quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) seed was examined using energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX) in combination with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Phosphorus, K, and Mg coincided in localization in embryonic tissue. Since phytin globoids have been known to localize in protein bodies in embryonic cells of quinoa seed, it is thought that P is attributed...
